*hiccup*

The wonderful Mark Morford asks: Is our nation drunk?
And they all screamed and stomped and huffed and puffed and said no way should there be any oversight of this year's election, even though there is indeed a gross pile of mounting evidence that there's nothing stopping BushCo from simply stealing the election all over again. Isn't that funny?

It's enough to make you laugh 'til you gag. And choke. And move to Canada.

And isn't it hilarious how the absolute worst thing the Right has been able to dredge up about John Kerry is that he might sort of maybe have exaggerated some facts about his various Vietnam medals and acts of and valor and deeds of astounding heroism, which is sort of like saying well sure you saved 10 babies from that burning building, but jeez, you were wearing special shoes at the time and by the way couldn't you have saved 11? Traitor!

And how hard should we guffaw while we note that, as Kerry was volunteering in Vietnam and earning his medals and risking his life in the most volatile and ugly and pointless and lethal and hideous war in American history unless you count Iraq, which you really really should, Dubya was "serving" in the Air National Guard, which we all know translates to mean "hangin' down in Tijuana slamming tequila shooters and annoying the waitresses, all while praising Jesus that he had a daddy who could keep him away from scary complicated violent stuff."

[snip]

What, too bitter? Resentful? Too much like I advocate stringing Karl Rove up by his large intestine and slapping him with a rainbow flag until he cries? All apologies.

Hey, it happens. Sometimes you just gotta purge. Vent. Let it all out. Because, really, it all makes you ask: Is everyone on drugs? Mass delusional? Are we just blind? Or is the vicious GOP spin machine really that powerful? Why, yes, yes, it is. And isn't it just the funniest thing?

[snip]

And, finally, isn't it funny -- in a nauseating, soul-mauling sort of way -- that 52 American soldiers have died in BushCo's completely useless little Iraq war just this month alone. How very touching, their noble sacrifice. Too bad Bush doesn't care.

Let us just laugh and laugh at how the media barely covers these pedestrian, boring deaths anymore, instead allowing the GOP to turn the debate into one about a miserable, lost war that happened nearly 30 years ago, all while U.S. soldiers continue to die every day, right now, for no justifiable reason whatsoever.

Yes, let us laugh until we cry. Let us note how the Bush-induced death toll is now up to 964 U.S. soldiers -- a staggering 855 above the total since the infamous, insulting "Mission accomplished" quip -- which is, if the GOP plays it just so, right on track to reach 1,000 U.S. dead by the time the Republican convention kicks into high gear. What fun!

And that 1,000th soldier will fall in abject pain, his or her life utterly wasted for a cause that never really existed, that no one actually believes in, that was all built on a lie to begin with. And he or she will die just as all the war hawks and all the right-wing homophobes and all the cigar-chompin' corporate CEOs gather in New York and pop their champagne and cheer the true triumvirate o' GOP happiness: God, guns and money.
Money Quote: "Yes, it's enough to make you laugh out loud. Until you don't."

Dear, you don't have a clue. I assumed you were a teenager, but 40 years old for chrissake! What is it that you actually DO in Sacremento.

John Kerry's real VN crime was not about medals, it was about coming back and telling horrific lies about his peers still fighting in the jungle, and they cannot forgive him. Of course, for Kerry, it was only a stepping stone to his political career and he probably thought nobody would really care. Now he makes his four month episode the center piece of his campaign [cause there ain't nothing in the next thirty years he wants to talk about] and he's toasted himself. By the way, the worst thing for Kerry is that next thirty years, wherein his best [only?] accomplishment was marrying rich...

It's hard for me to argue with you about the pointlessness of the VN war. I served as a naval officer in that time (submarines) and dispised what the politicians [by the way it was LBJ's war, not Nixon's] did to my generation as a result of restrictions on taking the fight to the enemy wherever he was. But Viet Nam, like Cuba, like Korea, like Nicaraua, like Afghanistan, like even Grenada, was a message to Moscow that we will not let communism run rampant. Even more importantly, it was a message to our NATO allies that we will join them and fight the Soviets in Europe or anywhere else. Other than nukes, which nobody wanted to pull the trigger on anyway, these wars and battles were to send a costly but necessary message to people with evil intentions (Soviets) that if you test us, we will fight, and you will be hurt.

This is the same message that George Bush is sending to the Muslim world today. If you support and foster this radical terrorist shit, you're going to be hurt. But Bush realizes it's not enough to kill the terrorists, only more will follow. You have to do something to change the swamp these animals breed in. And it's not the swamp of poverty or hunger that breeds terrorism. It's the swamp of political oppression combined with a distorted religious perspective that sees death as the only escape. He is attempting to give two key muslim countries the means for freedom and hope, and a way out of this vicious cycle. And if Iraq and Afghanistan succeed, Iran will find itself surrounded by re peoples. Syria will find itself surrounded by the democracies of Turkey, Iraq (we hope), and Israel. By the way, it took almost ten years for us to bring West Germany to vote after WWII. Is one or two years for Iraq so unreasonable?

Yes, a lot of U.S. soldier's have died in Iraq. But this is no useless little war'. Have you read the Iraqi citizen blogs? Try Iraqthemodel.com. There are lots of blogs from soldiers in Iraq as well. You would be amazed at how committed THEY are to what there doing, because they see the real good there doing at the Iraqi citizen level. I'm sure they read many blogs like yours that only discourge them, and the sad thing is that it's purely out of ignorance on your part.

Vietnam was not lost on the battlefield. It was lost by the media commentators and anti-war talk like Kerry's that didn't recognize the great victories our soldiers and marines achieved. Since that war, the North Vietnamese commanders have admitted that they could never have defeated us and were near surrendering in the south, but they realized all they had to do was wait for Washington to loose its resolve due to the likes of anti-war types like Kerry and Jane Fonda. So what you say, the U.S. lost its winning streak, big deal? Are you aware of the slaughter of Laotians by the Vietnamese after our pullout? When you have some free time from your soaps, read about the Cambodian 'killing fields' and the Khmer Rouge (sp?). Millions died needlessly because we failed. While I was not in VN, I was in uniform in '70-73. I know this period and I know how it felt to be jeered by mindless idiots who hadn't a clue.

Don't jeer at our soldiers like those people did. And believe me, when you jeer at the commander in chief and belittle the war, that's exactly what your doing. You can't support the troops and deny the value of the war their fighting, and winning by the way. Read their blogs.

Sorry to go on. You may now go to my blog and retaliate.

Hello Feetballbill--

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I support our troops. I support our military. I supported the war on the Taliban. I supported capturing Bin Laden, the man who heads the ever-growing organization intent on killing us, dead or alive.

I don't support Bush's illegal war on Iraq. He lied, people are dying.

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Say it with me, Bill.
Iraq. Had. Nothing. To. Do. With. 9/11.

Almost 1000 Americans dead. 6,000+ maimed. 15,000 injured. 13,000+ Iraqi civilians dead. Countless (because the US isn't counting) Iraqis wounded. What for?

WMDs? Nope. Imminent threat. Nope. Stock piles of evil weapons? Nope. Al Queda links. Nope.

Where's Osama?

Collateral damage has a face, Bill.

I'm glad you made it out of Nam alive. I hope our soldiers in Iraq today are as lucky as you were then.

Peace out.

Hello you rightwing idiot.

Let this be a warning to you: If you test me, you will be hurt.

The Vietnam War was certainly Nixon's war. Guess what, rightwing mron, after you've fought an unjust war from 1969 onward, you own it. Nixon fought it; Nixon owned it.

Everything Kerry said when he got back from Nam was true. You either don't know that these things happened (ever hear of My Lai and Lt. Calley, you stupid rightwing asshole?) or you were in on them and you are a genocidal murderer yourself. Either way, you are nothing but scum, and you don't deserve to live in a great nation like the U.S.A.

The Iraq War is a corporate shell game designed to make profits for the powerful people who stole the election to put Bush/Cheney into power. If you don't know this, then you are waaaay too stupid to see where your tax dollars are going. Vietnam was the same thing. It had nothing to do with containing Communism and everything to do with selling more helicopters.

The real tragedy here, of course, is that you weren't killed in Vietnam. It was an immoral war and you are an immoral man. We don't need your kind in our fine country.

>>You have to do something to change the swamp these animals breed in.<<

You're truly an idiot, Bill. You and your murderous Republican ilk have killed 16,000 innocent people in Iraq. Not animals, you fucking piece of slime, but INNOCENT PEOPLE. Now their friends and relatives are pissed. These innocent people had to die for the profit statements of Halliburton and the other rotten Republican companies--this war has NOTHING to do with 9/11.

Do you want to know what true justice is, Bill? Now that "the breeding swamp" has been cleansed of "animals," the friends and relatives of those "animals" are going to kill you and your whole rotten family, Bill. How does that suit ya? As the blood is dripping out of your children's necks, will you finally understand that all that you and Bush and Halliburton accomplished in Iraq was the CREATION OF MORE TERRORISTS???

It's incredible that people as stupid as you, Bill, are allowed to walk around, much less vote or own a computer. You ought to be sitting in a bamboo cage somewhere in the jungle, with a sharpened stick up your sorry Vietnam Vet ass.

Bill betrayed his ignorance:

>>And if Iraq and Afghanistan succeed, Iran will find itself surrounded by re peoples. Syria will find itself surrounded by the democracies of Turkey, Iraq (we hope), and Israel. By the way, it took almost ten years for us to bring West Germany to vote after WWII. Is one or two years for Iraq so unreasonable?<<

For your information, dumbbell, Iran is already more of a democracy than Florida was in 2000. Iran is more of a democracy than Afghanistan or Iraq will ever be, more than Pakistan our dictatorship ally is--although Pakistan USED to be a democracy before Musharaff assumed dictatorial powers. But that doesn't bother you or Bush, Bill. Because you are idiot hypocrites.

There is no Bush plan to turn Iraq and Afghanistan into democracies. The plan is for chaos to continue to reign there, so that U.S. defense contractors can continue to make money out of those wars. That's the only plan, Bill. And it's working. The problem is that you're too stupid to understand that.

Why do you think so few troops were sent to Afghanistan and Iraq? Because the defense contractors who control Rumsfeld want the money spent on THEM and bigger toys instead, not on our troops. Rumsfeld doesn't support the troops. He supports Star Wars and the B-1 Bomber, etc.

If the U.S. were interested in supporting democracy in the region, we would be supporting the democracy in Iran and allying ourselves AGAINST the dictatorship in Pakistan.

But you don't have to make sense, Bill. You're a Republican. You were born stupid, with a brain smaller than a chimp's. You think Bush is a good guy. You don't understand that Bush would have gladly seen YOU and your entire family die on Flight 93 if it brought him a few more points in the polls.

Come on, Bill, post here. I told you I would take you apart. You are completely in the wrong. And you don't have the balls to show your face here because you've been out-argued.

You fucking twerp.
